Russell is Director Planning & Place at the City of Fremantle, responsible for city design, heritage and statutory services. Prior to taking up this role, Russell was Project Director for the Walyalup Koort (Kings Square) Project – a public-private partnership to revitalise the civic heart of Fremantle.
Previously, Russell spent over 15 years leading the City Design Office at the City of Perth. He was responsible for many of the urban strategies and projects in the capital city including the Northbridge Piazza, Forrest Place redevelopment, streetscape and laneway improvements, and the 2-Way Street Conversion Program.
Educated and trained as an architect in the UK, Russell quickly developed a passionate interest in the broader questions about what makes great cities. He has worked across local government, private practice and state government agencies in developing his multidiscipline practice in public realm design and the delivery of city projects.
