Mark Black is a Principal and Studio Leader at Architectus Perth, bringing over 20 years of experience in the built environment with a strong focus on residential and mixed-use developments. His expertise spans the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept design to documentation and delivery, across various procurement models including ECI, D&C, and novated consultant roles.


Mark has led several significant residential projects that demonstrate his commitment to design excellence and community integration. Notably, he spearheaded the Smith Street Build-to-Rent development in Highgate, which includes 109 apartments designed to foster connection and inclusivity. In Fremantle, his work on 8 Point Street introduced 215 high quality apartments with retail spaces and a communal courtyard, revitalising the eastern end of the city.


Mark also led the design of the Lyall Street senior living precinct in South Perth, comprising 102 apartments with wellness-focused amenities, promoting independence and community for older residents. His approach is characterised by a balance of tenacity and empathy, ensuring architectural outcomes that are both innovative and responsive to user needs.


Beyond his project work, Mark contributes to the academic field as a sessional lecturer at Curtin University’s School of Built Environment, nurturing the next generation of architects.
